Hi, Nechoma, I always used to think that ‘badeken’ and ‘dek-tuch’ were related to ‘deck’ as in ‘cover’ or ‘decorate’. But then somehow I realized that ‘badeken’ is linguistically related to ‘bodek’ meaning ‘check’, because the groom checks that he is getting the bride he expected, unlike when Yaakov Avinu was tricked into marrying Leah when he wanted to marry Rachel.
