There is a certain attitude in the New York area about elitism and outdoing the Joneses (ie better car, nicer house) etc. Unfortunatly it seems some of these attitudes have infiltrated the frum communities in the NY area, expect its not outdoing the Joneses by a nicer car but outdoing the Goldbergs by outfrumming them and these attitudes can be very damaging to those who cannot keep up
