If I’m looking to hire two equivalent programmers and I interview Barry and offer him the job for $85,000 after negotiating with him; the next day I interview Harry and wish to offer him the second (equivalent) position. Can I not offer him the position for $75,000? It he immediately accepts must I say “surprise, Harry, your salary is $85,000 since that’s what I promised Barry? So if it is Harriett instead of Harry, I must offer her $85k if she accepts $75k?
