Now employers, with 25 employees or more, must pay their female and male employees equal wages.
Paying men more than women for these employers is now illegal in Iceland.
Yays!!! 🙂
January 3, 2018 11:48 pm at 11:48 pm #1442574👑RebYidd23ParticipantI didn’t know you were a snowflake feminist SJW. (T)
January 4, 2018 7:39 am at 7:39 am #1442595iacisrmmaParticipantLB: and do you live in Iceland?
January 4, 2018 7:39 am at 7:39 am #1442597JosephParticipantEnjoy your move to Iceland.
January 4, 2018 1:45 pm at 1:45 pm #1442922lesschumrasParticipantWhy does equal payment ( assuming same job and reuhhal skill set ) equate to feminism?
January 4, 2018 2:22 pm at 2:22 pm #1442936JosephParticipantSo how do those crazy Ice men work this? If an Iceland company has 26 employees, 13 men and 13 women, they must pay each women at least as much as each man? If they have 2 computer programmers they can’t pay one more than the other?
January 4, 2018 3:25 pm at 3:25 pm #1442964midwesternerParticipantNow watch the female unemployment rise.
January 4, 2018 3:25 pm at 3:25 pm #1442966Neville ChaimBerlinParticipantUnicorns and Leprechauns are now illegal is Nevereverland. Yaaaayyy
January 4, 2018 3:35 pm at 3:35 pm #1442997David111ParticipantUnemployment with women will rise.
January 4, 2018 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #1443006David111ParticipantYou don’t need to pay a secretary the same pay as the CEO. So The secretaries will continue to be mostly women, and thr CEO / managers – men.
It’s called equal pay!
January 4, 2018 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #1443014👑RebYidd23ParticipantSo you acknowledge the existence of the pay gap?
January 4, 2018 3:44 pm at 3:44 pm #1443019lesschumrasParticipantDavid111,
A. There aren’t that many secretarial positions any more
B. More and more women are managers and CEOsJanuary 4, 2018 4:34 pm at 4:34 pm #1443031jdf007ParticipantIf the across from me at work makes .25 cents less an hour for having less experience than I, I need to make less money in the name of equality.
This sounds as brilliant as Sweden with their feminist snow plow routes that shut down the entire city.
January 4, 2018 4:34 pm at 4:34 pm #1443032David111Participant“B. More and more women are managers and CEOs”
Because it was economical.
January 5, 2018 2:25 am at 2:25 am #1443071JosephParticipantWomen are paid less because women take off more time for maternity and other reasons (going home early for children, etc.) reducing their experience, even if a man and a woman initially joined the workforce at the same time.
That and men are better negotiators for salary.
January 5, 2018 8:58 am at 8:58 am #1443516lesschumrasParticipantJoseph, please respond to my point. You insist on creating alternative scenarios and responding to them.
If a man and a woman have identical work experience , talent, and knowledge, they should be paid the same. Do you agree or disagree?
By the way, on what basis do you claim men are better negotiators?
January 5, 2018 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm #1443575David111ParticipantNo offense to anyone but i employ men only. It may sound a radicical but it’s not an official company policy.
Some of the reasons:
1. I found that in many cases by the time I finish training they took maternity. And after a few kids some quit and needed to recruit again (recruiting good staff is from my hardest part of running my business)
2. Women tend to take off work much more times the amount then men. They take off for got reasons! – like if a child isn’t well ect. (However it’s hard on the company..)
3. With men it’s more likely that I can hand over the job and they take the full responsibility. They’ll deal with it after hours – if needed – and they breathe the business. (I pay more then the going wages so the staff are energised). With women it wasn’t usually the case. (And they are right not to be so involved-they have kids to take care of!)All kinds of business’s vary. I don’t advise anyone to make this a company policy! There’s plenty women that are much better then men workers and I’m sure we can list reasons why not to employ men.
This is just what works for my business..
January 5, 2018 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm #1443634yytzParticipantPeople should do research on Iceland’s policy before assuming you understand what it means.
“The new rules don’t mean that companies must pay everyone doing the same job the exact same salary.
Employers still have the option of rewarding their workers based on experience, performance and other aspects. However, the companies must show that the differences in wages are not due to gender.”
The gender pay gap is a real issue, though research suggests much of it is due to women choosing less renumerative careers.
In Holland, men and women both have the right to part-time work if requested, so a huge number of women (and some men) work part-time and love it. They get paid less of course, but life is better. Men should do the same–that way, more time for Torah (see Pirkei Avos 2:2).
January 5, 2018 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm #1443635JosephParticipant“If a man and a woman have identical work experience , talent, and knowledge, they should be paid the same. Do you agree or disagree?”
Disagree. If I’m looking to hire two equivalent programmers and I interview Barry and offer him the job for $85,000 after negotiating with him; the next day I interview Harry and wish to offer him the second (equivalent) position. Can I not offer him the position for $75,000? It he immediately accepts must I say “surprise, Harry, your salary is $85,000 since that’s what I promised Barry? So if it is Harriett instead of Harry, I must offer her $85k if she accepts $75k?
“By the way, on what basis do you claim men are better negotiators?”
This is documented in studies. Do a little research.

The conservative point on this is that the discussion doesn’t take into account dedication. Men usually put work before family and this deserve better compensation.
But if you amend your statement to include a scenario where the woman has the same experience and dedication, then of course she should get the same pay.January 6, 2018 6:45 pm at 6:45 pm #1443666mentsch1ParticipantLess
It is fairly routine in my office for women to come late and leave early for family related issues. Not a week goes by where such a request is not made of me.
Yesterday I stayed late bc a female colleague wanted to leave early for a family related issue.
As a frum understanding male I allow these requests bc I believe in putting family bf business (as long as the disruption is minimal of course)
But looked at from a capitalistic POV there is no comparison. Males are more dedicated (in general) and should be rewarded accordingly.January 6, 2018 6:45 pm at 6:45 pm #1443708lesschumrasParticipantMentsch, i amend my statement
Joseph,
A. Once again you made up a new scenario. If you are hiring , do you pay the man more than the woman simply because he’s a man?B. So, since you can’t/won’t provide sources, you have none
January 6, 2018 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #1443759JosephParticipantLC: I negotiate the lowest salary I can hire the person for that he or she agrees to.
January 6, 2018 9:46 pm at 9:46 pm #1443776David111ParticipantJoseph. Not sure how this works in you business but I find that you need to be generous with the workers pay. It pays off in the long run.
