This is a real question. How do you measure predominance? How is the Maharsha more “predominant” than the HIDA? The former wrote a commentary to the Talmud, the latter wrote 36 books on all facets of Torah? Is it number of people influenced? Don’t forget that as of right the 1600s the Ashkenazic population eclipsed the Sephardic one. But that’s just a numbers game, not an inherent superiority.
