It may be that the reason many people cry the hardest during the kinnos written by the Gedolim who survived the holocaust and wrote the kinnus on the Churban Europe in the post-WWII period (Rav Michael Dov Weissmandel, Bobover Rebbe, Rav Shimon Schwab, etc.) is because we are able to most identify with the Gedolim we saw with out own eyes and the survivors who are our grandparents and the victims who are our great-grandparents and great uncles and aunts.
