The Hungarians are against immigrants as Trump. The Hungarian Revolution was October 23, 1956. My father, living in Sopron at the Austrian border, got involved in helping Jewish refugees to escape.
We stayed in Hungary until February 12, 1957, Lincoln’s birthday being 9 years old. My father comes home at night and says, pack up we are leaving. He wanted to take a big family but was told that it was very dangerous, I will take you. We had to get into a last wagon of the train to exit unnoticed behind the train and hide in the bushes. We were met by two hungarian soldiers who took us to the border having to avoid search lights and there they left us on our own. We were walking on our own in no-mans land in plow-fields. Eventually we arrived in Austria. We stayed for 3 months in the Continental Hotel. Fom there we were taken to a dp camp in Upper Austria called Asten closed to Linz. We were there 2 1/2 years until we were able to America.
