Participant: “how unifying is it to sign 17 orders on the 1st day of office, half of them just in order to reverse the policies of the trump administration?
Actually, it was surprising that only 8 of the 17 EOs directly reversed a Trump “policy”. If you are old enough to recall (or for some of us, too old to recall) in his first weeks in office, Trump signed close to 30 EOs reversing Obama policies. On Obama’s first week in office, Mitch McConnell promised to be “Obama’s Waterloo” and block his policies wherever possible.
Our system of government is BROKEN as both parties have become increasingly polarized and the traditional process of finding a middle ground consensus to legislate seems a distant memory. Indeed, for Republicans, and many Dems, even using the word “compromise” is a political death wish and guarantee of facing a primary challenge.
Biden was elected on a clear promise to reverse Trump’s immigration and environmental policies just to name a few. As a certain impeached President used to say, “promises made, promises kept”.
