The relevant goyishe proverb (for those of you for whom Latin is the mama lashon) is: “vestis virum facit” meaning “clothes make the man.” I guess that would translate into “judge a chassidish guy by his bekeshe and shtreimel”. Its a bit more challenging for the Litvish bochurim since the sartorial options tend to be more limited and lacking in individuality.
