Those who wish for Biden to step aside seem to believe it would be relatively easy for the convention to nominate Harris or another candidate that would appear on the ballot in all 50 states as the Democratic candidate. While I truly wish Biden would somehow disappear from public life, the actual mechanics of having pledged Biden delegates vote for a new candidate and have that name appear on the November ballot as the Democratic party candidate is considerably more complicated and will be litigated in a number of states where election laws are relatively arcane and Republicans are certain to contest any changes. Also, there is a federal law requiring states to mail out absentee ballots several weeks after the Democratic convention in August so there will be little time to litigate and resolve any challenges before ballots are printed.
