Instead of saving 600,000 Hungarian Jews, Kastner reduced it to 1,700. And for what remained after his family and zionist friends took their seats on the train, he sold tickets for what was left. So there was nothing wrong for anyone, including the Rabbonim who managed to buy seats from Kastner (who btw the Rabbonim hadn’t known at the time Kastner was the one profiting from this train ride) to do so, since that became the last train out (another point they hadn’t known at the time.)
