I hate to disagree with you, but there is offen a Gemorah in Pesachim 113a (also BB 110a) that is against you, and says one should take any job, even one disgusting and extremely menial, rather than taking Tzedaka.
Walking into Wal-Mart and filling out an application is (in general) a possibility.
Of course, Kollel is probably a better paying option (taking into account Klei Kodesh discounts, no supervision, unlimited sick leave and better hours!)
