However the Halacha as you remember hearing it it clearly against the Gemorra and Shulchan Aruch, I am politely suggesting that there is a misunderstanding. The ONLY alternative would be to suggest that your Rav was ignorant, which is why I prefer to suggest you misunderstood the Halacha, similarly to how you misunderstood the terminology.
