The stovetop you describe in your last post sounds very unusual.
I’m not a spring chicken, and the stovetops of my parents’ generation, grandparents too, for that matter, appeared consistent with your first description. I have never seen a stovetop with a pilot light that literally merged with the burner flame, although there are other things I haven’t seen as well… Quite an unusual stovetop, though.
