Sunflower, I did not read this story, so I have no idea what its content actually is and do speak admittedly out of ignorance of the subject. However, I have seen how people who have different hashkafos about certain issues, tend to feel either more in favor or less in favor of such things being published (read: publicized). It is the very way of thinking that you and some others have (and I am NOT belittling or derogating it, chalilah, because I DO get your opinion and your very valid concerns), that leads sometimes to a community covering up abuse of spouses and children, drug use that is RAMPANT in yeshivas (whether we want to believe it or not), immoral behavior, and so on. Hiding our children’s heads in the sand is NOT the asnwer, in my humble opinion, because whether or not you accept this to be true, many of them ALREADY KNOW what is going on. Off the derech behavior unfortunately is in our faces everywhere we go. The idea is to teach our children that this is a great tragedy, and strengthen their emunah and religious connection to Torah and mitzvos, so that when they read, see, or experience something like this, they are equipped to handle it.
I am sure you disagree with the above, but trying to keep our children like ostriches, is largely responsible for a lot of what we see going on today. The Yetzer Hara has to be challenged and met with strength. Pretending he is not there, only gives him more power. I would read the article together with my children were they still so young, and then discuss the ramifications of what we have read, to get a better understanding of their own thought processes.
