I agree with the bring it with you but leave it silent and don’t look at it rule. The only exception would be if you might be getting some sort of important call (for example if you’re a doctor), in which case you apologize to your date at the beginning but let him/her know you might get such call. In that case you can leave the ringer on, check when it rings, but if it’s not that call, DON’T ANSWER IT!
