A learner/his wife must know and realise to have a home where the man is seriously learning BOTH need to sacrifice their gashmiyus. I am writing from experience. I am amazed how my son and daughter in law mange with much less than their other siblings because they are determined to keep on the path they mapped out for themselves. E.g No or very little air conditioning in the Summer in Bnei Berak
