I’m not sure what you mean. In this case, being machmir in either direction means being maikel in the other.
What I think Mayan was insinuating (and tongue in cheek), is that with most mitzvot, people try to get away with doing the minimum. Here, everyone wants to go according to the shitta that lets you do the most (AKA drinking the most).
