The girl had already decided NOT to go forward in the relationship, but she went out with him anyway, and she told him the next day that she had decided the previous night not to go out again if he were to ask her. Had a shadchan set them up professionally, I would not have felt it warranted compensation. The third date is not always a “third date,” but more of an easing into the mode of saying no to a fourth date, because some girls are not able to figure out how to handle the decision not to go out, so they go one more time, putting off the inevitable, because it’s uncomfortable.
