I think they are worried how financially it will work out, since the more religious you are in Israel, the more you generally rely on government services.
Charedim are less then half of the religious population in Eretz Yisrael. And even amoungst the Charedim, B”H the working population has grown to about 50%. Not true.
The leftist secular askenzai world is scared of anyone taking away their monopoly on Israeli power – hence, the merciless racism towards sephardim religious or not, Russian Olim (ask Lieberman & Aryeh Deri).
I think you are falling into their media trap.
And by the way…do you know what benefits they are referring to, or how much they cost?
