IMHO, owning a gun is a lack of Bitachon unless you live in a specifically dangerous neighborhood. There is no reason that the average american should need to own a gun to protect himself. Besides for the fact that it has the potential to cause a lot of problems with kids. Additionally, the last thing you want is that you pull the gun and the guy panics and shoots you. Also what happens if he gets hold of your gun? You armed your attacker. I don’t think it falls under proper hishtadlus to put yourself at risk for security reasons in this case.
(Just to set the record straight, I do believe that Americans have the right to own guns if they want, and am against anti-gun laws[to an extent obviously] but that is a different discussion all together.)
But that’s just my opinion, people may argue.
