Although probably retrograde in many precincts, there used to be a very sweet practice among the Yekkes on Shavuot night. The men went to learn and in the middle of the night, unmarried girls would gather to serve refreshments, giving eligible bachelors an opportunity to acquaint themselves with prospective shidduchim.
