We see many times in Shas (anyone here holding with the daf?) where an amoirah proposes a chumrah and the other chachamim say that if you do such-and-such you’ll be motzi laaz on the previous generation who were not as machmir.
Additionally, just as we say Lo Plug regarding a gezairah, where the stated reason doen’t apply anymore, but we still follow the gezairah, that principle should apply here as well.
