Talking to others on the net allows a person to get an unbiased opinion about their situation. Many people that I spoke to who I was close with were reluctant to advise me to leave because they fear my being alone long term and the repercussions of that decision. People who also know a family member first hand may have a hard time believing they are anything than what they present themselves to be in front of others. It also enables people to tap into source of others with possibly more life experience or a more balanced perspective.
