Personally I feel that a bochur has virtually no reason to be texting anybody. If he’s learning in Lakewood, then that is what he’s supposed to be doing – LEARNING. His mother will simply have to call him or wait for him to call bein hasedarim in order to speak to him. If there is an emergency, there are probably other means to get ahold of him in such cases.

A yungerman, on the other hand, does have other people out there who are dependent on him. Maybe his wife should do the same as the bochur’s mother, I’m not sure, but really what is texting used for? I’m in EY and, as mentioned above, do not have such capabilities on my phone.
