Here’s an excerpt that I’m rather proud of:

Every great person, every historical figure has stories told about their early life. None of them had it easy. Martin Luther King Jr., a man I hold in very high regard, was imprisoned, abused, discriminated against, and hated by a majority of the people he was trying to change. Hellen Keller was blind, deaf and mute. Stephen hawking would be the perfect example. He is unable to move or speak. Many of the greatest minds throughout history endured serious hardship throughout their lives. However, would Martin Luther King Jr. be who he is and was if he had lived a perfect life free of hate and hardship? Would Stephen Hawking be the thinker and scientist he is today without his disability?

Pondering this topic always brings me back to the Matrix where Morpheus offers Neo the choice of red or blue pill. One allows him to break free of the virtual prison in which binds his mind in an altered version of reality where ignorance is bliss, and see the world for what it is, and the other allows him to remain comfortably ensconced in his fictional delusion of blissful oblivion. The movie spins the choice as obvious, the protagonist must destroy the system imprisoning all of mankind, but upon deeper contemplation one realizes that the choice is absolutely impossible.
