soliek its NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writers Month) and seeing as im horrible at novel writing, im writing a book about my favourite person. myself. idk if any of you remember i posted that article about mental illness and stuff which later got published by Ami…but that article and everything ive written on the forum since concerning that topic only scratches the surface of what actually happened and what i have to say about it. so im writing a book about it this month and im going to try and get it published.
it will not be written for frum jews because its not only intended for frum jews; its intended for everyone. there will be no swearing, no nudity (as i cant say ive experienced much) nor any inappropriate sexual material (see above parentheses). its just not being written for your average sara schnirrer graduate. it will be candid and frank. i say whatevers on my mind. some people may not like it…i dont particularly care…butliekyea…thats that. cyallz in a month…?

November 2, 2011 6:37 pm at 6:37 pm #851939TheGoqParticipantAstrix I’m surprised the mods allowed the second word of your post to go through perhaps it should be edited out.

November 2, 2011 10:15 pm at 10:15 pm #851941bptParticipant“the second word of your post”
That word was used before, by another member (who has of late, gone missing).
I wonder if its the same person, with a new screen name?
November 2, 2011 11:00 pm at 11:00 pm #851942soliekMemberadorable…how could i be bomb…he was banned…>.>
November 2, 2011 11:13 pm at 11:13 pm #851943AstrixParticipantno im not the same member.I dont think its a bad word..thats why the mods let it through. This yeshivaworld.com where they report things in a kosher way but not to much that it would just be news about gedolim. They report on Occupy Wall Street which is a bunch of hippies living “very freely”.This whole idea of a message board is a lot more “extreme” than the word i just used.No offense.Secondly,I do not thin that the mods look at every post. There could be like 500 posts in an hour and im sure they arnet paying some1 to read our stuff.they have a machine/filter and this word wasnt one of the bad ones.Peace.

November 3, 2011 2:00 am at 2:00 am #851950soliekMemberHere’s an excerpt that I’m rather proud of:
Every great person, every historical figure has stories told about their early life. None of them had it easy. Martin Luther King Jr., a man I hold in very high regard, was imprisoned, abused, discriminated against, and hated by a majority of the people he was trying to change. Hellen Keller was blind, deaf and mute. Stephen hawking would be the perfect example. He is unable to move or speak. Many of the greatest minds throughout history endured serious hardship throughout their lives. However, would Martin Luther King Jr. be who he is and was if he had lived a perfect life free of hate and hardship? Would Stephen Hawking be the thinker and scientist he is today without his disability?
Pondering this topic always brings me back to the Matrix where Morpheus offers Neo the choice of red or blue pill. One allows him to break free of the virtual prison in which binds his mind in an altered version of reality where ignorance is bliss, and see the world for what it is, and the other allows him to remain comfortably ensconced in his fictional delusion of blissful oblivion. The movie spins the choice as obvious, the protagonist must destroy the system imprisoning all of mankind, but upon deeper contemplation one realizes that the choice is absolutely impossible.
November 3, 2011 3:04 am at 3:04 am #851951dandelionMemberSounds like you have a lot to get off your chest and put out to the world. It’s great that you have this ability to write in a way that makes people want to read, and that you have been able to sum up your life experiences in a way that you can extract lessons and meaningful ideas from them. It must be somewhat taxing wondering about how your life story and your thoughts about it will be received by the public. I hope all goes well for you! I wish you much hatzlacha, and strength if it doesn’t go as well as you’d have liked. Personally I’d read the book.
November 3, 2011 3:08 am at 3:08 am #851952soliekMemberI’m going to keep posting excerpts here because i am desperate for attention and recognition. soliek yea 😀
cha-ching!
November 3, 2011 3:28 am at 3:28 am #851953Queen BeeMembersoliek, I haven’t had a chance to read your excerpt yet, but I will soon when I have time. I just want to say that you should be careful with what you post. First of all, anyone could read this and steal it. Second of all, some publishers don’t like to publish work that has already been “out there.” Since it’s up here, it might be considered “published” and publishers might not want to use it. So while it’s okay to put up some pieces, I think the mods should take it down after a while.
November 11, 2011 12:15 am at 12:15 am #851955soliekMemberim stuck at 30,000 words and i need ideas. mental illness and social stigma…how both can affect the lives of those around the one who suffers from mental illness.

November 11, 2011 3:00 am at 3:00 am #851956Sister BearMemberThe excerpt is really good!!!!!!!!!!

November 15, 2011 9:17 am at 9:17 am #851957soliekMemberWOOOOOOO!!!
40K and counting! im not up to the very last topic of my book: the internet…where i discuss the allure of the internet, and the dynamics of relationships both casual (friendly) and intimate (obviously not physically) and how communities form online and the nature of an online communal bond.
and yes…the book is going to be secular…im not interested in catering to one specific market especially since any frum publisher would make me remove about half of what i’ve written…i’ve not mentioned anything religious in the book other than the fact that im jewish and two references to special days like shabbos and purim…butliekyea its coming along nicely 🙂
November 15, 2011 1:01 pm at 1:01 pm #851958kapustaParticipantCongrats on reaching 40K. Just read the excerpt and its very easy reading.
November 22, 2011 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #851959soliekMembersoliek i just finished the book last night. im editing it now…itll probably be done in a few months.
the book is not for kids…it has swearing (not gratuitously, just enough to make a point every now and then) and references to sexuality (nothing explicit or inappropriate).
