Kozov: According to the talmud, indirect speech is the mark of a Ben Torah, which is why it is very common in the frum community. Among Americans, direct speech is the minhag. It probably has to do with our culture being one that wished to avoid confrontation – we honor the Rodef Shalom, the goyim honor the victor.
