The Mishnah Berurah (quoting Machatzis Hashekel) says that it is better not to fold the talis at all (even not on the creases), and does not take “kovos hatalis” into consideration at all (he says not folding is “vadai odif, certainly preferable), even though it is muttar meikar hadin.
