But Popa, wouldn’t it be better if klei kodesh kept a disproportionate amount of the best minds? If I’m not mistaken, people say that the reason why Jews as a nation tend to be successful is because the smarter people succeeded in intellectual pursuits, which were more highly regarded, which led to greater opportunities for family and survival. I’m not sure I believe it, but if the yeshivas have a grip on everyone for the first 20+ years of their lives, shouldn’t they make a special effort to incentivize the more talented people to stay?
