Oomis: to answer your question from two years ago about overestimating the value of the ring affecting the Kidushin. You are exactly right, that is why we specifically don’t give anything other than a plain gold band for Kidushin so that the girl has a pretty good idea of what she is getting. (the engagement ring has nothing to do with kidushin).
