@ Canadian Mountie – Nothing hypocritical. I believe that as long as the law distinguishes cohabitation as regards privileges and responsibilities, whether it is called marriage or not, couples have a responsibility to register that relationship. They have a responsibility to NOT take advantage of “entitlements” that are there for people who are not in formalized cohabitation. It still has no impact on the definition of halachic marriage, which is all I care about defining.
And anybody supporting dishonesty because it is easy to get away with it doesn’t understand the role of a Jew in the world.
