The only time you may not cover a song without consent of the copyright holder is when you intend to monetize your recording but if you weren’t selling it but just did it for kicks it’s no problem. I agree that maybe it would have been better that he never had recorded it in the first place but I don’t take him to task for knowing the song. He isn’t oiver any aveira for hearing a man sing a song that has nothing inappropriate in it.
