Does anyone know where I can find and download this song? ( Yes i know its not his song) I want the one specifically when he’s singing. I think he recorded it for the special childrens center.

maybe if someone has it on their computer they can email it to the mod who can email it to me…

    Thanks a ton!

Its a non Jewish song and you got the name wrong. Try googling for it but from what I heard he isn’t happy that he was recorded and doesn’t want people to have that recording but obviously he can’t control what people do.

The YWN Homepage has 6 YouTube videos (scroll down to the Videos of Interest).

I also noticed this new section that looks like YWN is working on http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news_cat.php?cat=17

Just give it a minute to see if the videos load.

I say give us the link here – we want to see!

Do you mean ” You raise me up”, from the secret garden, recently sung by Josh Groban?

Google it. The Shwekey version should pop up in the last couple hundred links…

There’s no way its on youtube because he would have them take it down. I know people who have it on their ipods.

Is it the Diaspora Yeshiva Band song Hafachta? It starts with:

You brought me up when I was down,

    Oh yes you did.

I’m not sure about posting YouTube links, but searching for Diaspora Yeshiva and Hafachta brought up the song.

I’m somewhat surprised that Yaakov Shwekey sang a Josh Groban song, so I’ll admit I’m pretty curious myself.

I’m also mildly surprised to see that James Bond is a moderator here. I guess I should really hold off on my Sean Connery impressions. (On the Jokes thread, I did make a rather discriminatory remark against people who lisp….)

Inherent contradiction there. Does he have control or doesn’t he?

Why would he take someone else’s song?

It’s actually not a Josh Groban song, although he may have made it famous. It’s originally Secret Garden, sung by Brian Kennedy.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I actually don’t listen to Josh Groban, so I wouldn’t have known. 🙂

Not sure its gezel, you have many singers covering others songs especially this song, and additionally this wasnt meant for public distribution so it was just a singer singing a song at a random event that wasnt meant to be recorded. It was a concert and a special child made the request of him and he reluctantly gave in and sang the song. I dont know if its a chillul Hashem or not obviously I dont think we should be singing non Jewish songs but the lyrics and tune happen to be inspirational so I dont know. But I definitely think A.K.A. Pella 4, Maccabeats, Mattisyahu and similar cds are a chillul Hashem.

And he just so happened to know the song by heart?

I heard it a bit differently. I heard that he made his OWN rendition of the song, but took some parts of the Josh Groban song and tried to make it “his”. When he was called to task on it, he immediately had it removed from the internet. If it was so kosher, he wouldn’t have had to do that

Its not geneiva though. The only time you may not cover a song without consent of the copyright holder is when you intend to monetize your recording but if you weren’t selling it but just did it for kicks it’s no problem. I agree that maybe it would have been better that he never had recorded it in the first place but I don’t take him to task for knowing the song. He isn’t oiver any aveira for hearing a man sing a song that has nothing inappropriate in it.
