If my two year old grabbed a piece of dough that didn’t have challa taken yet, and crawled all over the house with it (apparently, based on tonight’s findings), was he shoretz v’tevel b’yado?

When I first came to the yeshiva, there was an alter bochur who missed shachris, insisted on second dates, and wouldn’t date daughters of gioreses. He once told me that you don’t really need to worry about slipper slopes, and the raihah is that he does all those things but still stayed in yeshiva.

No, because teruma gedola was either taken or not necessary. He’s shoretz ugzeilat hakohen b’yado. But then the pun is nowhere near as good, so tevel b’yado it is.

Is it not called tevel before you take challa?

It’s been a while since I learned ???, so I’m taking wikipedia’s word for it. Wikipedia says that tevel is stuff before terumos and maasros, and dough before challa is taken. I think it is correct.

I last learned challa about six months ago and I’m pretty sure tevel refers to terumah gedola. That is definitely the colloquial usage. Either way, keep ’em coming. Your troll threads are the only reason I still frequent this place. (That and the discworld thread) The politics are aggravating and now that I’m learning full time, I don’t need to come here for halacha arguments.

    You’re learning full time? ??? ???? ????????

You really need a new subtitle then. Perhaps “ger”.

Don’t worry, the yeshiva is full of likeminded shkotzim.

Maskilishe grammar nitpick: I’m pretty sure ??? is given a chirik and shva nach in Aramaic similar to bint in Arabic.

    Correction: It’s b’ras with a patach. I checked Jastrow.

I didn’t check jastrow, but I did look online first to make sure that ??? was the correct conjugation. I intended it to be with a patach.

(because the only thing worse than yeshiva guy english grammar is yeshiva guy aramaic grammar)

This is true. Especially the yeshiva guys who think they’re daykanim.
