My friend is turning 20 and she’s the first in our group to leave her teenage years! Anyone have any ideas how we should celebrate besides going out to eat? We do that every year and it’s getting kinda boring. What could we do that’s tonz of fun and a lil age appropriate?
December 16, 2008 1:08 am at 1:08 am #664197tzippiMemberbowling, indoor mini golf, arcade type stuff, etc.
Or maybe as a group you can go volunteer for Tomchei Shabbos or some other organization.
Happy birthday and may you all go on to great, meaningful things.
December 16, 2008 2:10 am at 2:10 am #664198beaconParticipantHey sounds like my situation – I’m turning 20 very soon (the first of my friends) 🙂 I would suggest an arcade place and/or bowling. Those places can be a lot of fun with a few friends…
December 16, 2008 2:11 am at 2:11 am #664199asdfghjklParticipantgo to manhattan & have a girls day out with shopping!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 16, 2008 2:32 pm at 2:32 pm #664200Mrs. BeautifulMemberHow about make a party in someones house and prepare a slideshow (powerpoint) of all your friends and the years in high school growing up…It may take time, but if u put nice music in the background it can come out really nice!
Bowling takes too short, and mini golf is boring! I think at the end FOOD always wins and a good program to go along with it.
December 16, 2008 3:00 pm at 3:00 pm #664201SJSinNYCMemberWhy not take a ride out to a nice park and go hiking! You can bring a portable BBQ or build a fire on site. Its like camping, without the sleepover.
December 16, 2008 3:07 pm at 3:07 pm #664202noitallmrParticipantFOOD FOOD FOOD Glorious food! Maskim totally to Mrs Beautiful. By the way you do have a high self esteem don’t you?

Beautiful: That’s sucha stunning idea! omg maybe i’ll do that for my family’s chanuka party! How can I get pictures that were taken a while ago, not on a digital onto a slideshow?
December 16, 2008 3:46 pm at 3:46 pm #664204myshadowMemberSJS: that would be a blast if it was in the summer! my friends are also real city girls! lol
December 16, 2008 4:41 pm at 4:41 pm #664205Mrs. BeautifulMembermyshadow: U have to scan it, that takes a long a time though…
December 16, 2008 5:11 pm at 5:11 pm #664206oomisParticipantIf your friends and you are musically inclined, maybe you could write her a musical spoof/roast/skit, with lyrics set to familiar tunes and then perform it at one of your homes. My siblings and I did that for my late parents’ special birthdays one Purim, and my parents were beyond overwhelmed. You write about various aspects of her life. I am sure there are some very funny moments that would be appropriate, and the last song could be a serious one on how much her friendship means to all of you. Just a thought.
December 16, 2008 6:17 pm at 6:17 pm #664207myshadowMemberBeautiful: i figured that would take a while. oh well maybe
Oomis: thanx! I can see that being hysterical!
December 16, 2008 7:33 pm at 7:33 pm #664208oomisParticipant“Oomis: thanx! I can see that being hysterical! “
You’re very welcome. It really was!!!! My parents were falling off their seats laughing, and they were so touched that we made this type of an effort.
December 17, 2008 12:11 am at 12:11 am #664209mdlevineMemberhow about suggestions for a 20th anniversary – the mrs. and I are celebrating 20 years on the 1st day of Chanukah.
December 17, 2008 12:13 am at 12:13 am #664210SJSinNYCMembermyshadow, its a lot of fun in the winter too! But if you are city girls…how about ice skating? I like to go in central park or Rockefeller Center. Afterwards, you can go out to Cafe K or whatever is near where you are going and get nice hot chocolates to warm you up!
December 17, 2008 12:15 am at 12:15 am #664211SJSinNYCMembermdlevine, 20 diamonds always works 🙂

December 17, 2008 2:00 am at 2:00 am #664212asdfghjklParticipantmdlevine: wow congrads!!! how about a slide show through the years starting with wedding photos & till today with the kids growing up????

December 17, 2008 1:40 pm at 1:40 pm #664216oomisParticipantMy daughter did this for my birthday (and it works for an anniversary, too). She had a calendar made up, with each page being another aspect of our family life through the years. It was a real keeper, and I loved the thought.
December 17, 2008 2:27 pm at 2:27 pm #664217myshadowMemberlol abcd 🙂 yea that would prbly be the best thing we can get her!
mdlevine, the slideshow idea is gorgeous. we did something like that for my grandparents’ 50th. All the grandchildren were there and it was emotional and very beautiful. btw Mazal tov!
December 17, 2008 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #664218Mrs. BeautifulMemberoomis1105, I think that is very special but the only problem with a calendar is that after a yr. it basically becomes a paper photo album…Once ur working on a through the yrs. thing maybe a scrap book would last better…
December 17, 2008 3:16 pm at 3:16 pm #664219noitallmrParticipantIn my younger years when my parents had their 25th anniversary I dug up old photos AND VIDEOS and made a stunning video with Pinnacle Studio.
Would highly recommend for any video you want to make. My parents couldn’t have been happier. I put many hours into it and sometimes play it back to myself just enjoying seeing my parents and siblings growing up…
December 17, 2008 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #664220SJSinNYCMembermdlevine, I think Joseph will volunteer to sponsor the diamonds 🙂
December 18, 2008 12:03 am at 12:03 am #664221asdfghjklParticipantmdlevine:
