And a Republican state government, and politically diverse cities.

Like the US Practiced at the end of the ’30s?
How could you be for One but against the Other?
October 9, 2016 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #1185963It is Time for TruthParticipantThe dislocation and confusion of 2016 do not rival the turmoil of the inter-war period, when Gramsci wrote, but they are symptoms of a new interregnum.

October 9, 2016 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #1185964akupermaParticipantIf diversity is a code work for excluding religious minorities, as it is becoming in “P.C” circles (cf. the recent comments by the head of the Federal Civil Rights Commission), diversity is bad for frum Jews. If American society will increasingly reflect the “P.C.” views, Libertarianism is good since it limits the ability of those in control to persecute us.

October 10, 2016 3:05 am at 3:05 am #1185968akupermaParticipantAccepting government money sooner or later ends up meaning you have to do what the government wants. It is a mistake to support the government in return for money – since sooner or later they will things like family restrictions (the better to reduce carbon emissions) or changes in halacha to accommodate gay rights and feminism (e.g. cutting off tax breaks for “homophobic” institutions, etc.). For a small and politically impotent minority, Libertarianism is the safest derekh.

October 10, 2016 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #1185974It is Time for TruthParticipantOn Economics as well , Libertarianism is Bad for most:
..
Even as the winner-take-all economy has enriched those at the very top, their tax burden has lightened. Tolerance for high executive compensation has increased, even as the legal powers of unions have been weakened and an intellectual case against them has been relentlessly advanced by plutocrat-financed think tanks. In the 1950s, the marginal income tax rate for those at the top of the distribution soared above 90 percent, a figure that today makes even Democrats flinch. Meanwhile, of the 400 richest taxpayers in 2009, 6 paid no federal income tax at all, and 27 paid 10 percent or less. None paid more than 35 percent.
October 10, 2016 4:35 pm at 4:35 pm #1185975👑RebYidd23ParticipantA libertarian federal government would give states back the power that the federal government is stealing.
October 10, 2016 5:44 pm at 5:44 pm #1185976It is Time for TruthParticipantRebYidd23,
So you only wish only for a libertarian federal government and States’ rights
[How] Are you different from the antebellum South?
October 10, 2016 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm #1185977It is Time for TruthParticipantThe founding fathers were for a Republic.
They were against democracy except in some limited form.
The difference is fundamental .
Today ,they would ruefully remark they were prescient indeed.
The United States was far from a democracy until the 1920s.
They even avoided using the word.
Some of the radicals such as Jefferson did believe in greater element of democracy . but he was strongly opposed even more than many of the others to any inclusion of women, blacks, and .. big cities which he termed “ulcers on the body politic”.
They were also opposed to a “secular” entity.
Cf. Franklin’s quote of psalm 127:1
All of that came of age only in the 1920’s with womens’ vote and Jewish influence.
Furthermore ,they were aware that religion was meaningless unless it was hand in hand with moral character and patriarchal system
October 10, 2016 5:55 pm at 5:55 pm #1185978It is Time for TruthParticipantOur Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

October 10, 2016 10:46 pm at 10:46 pm #1185981benignumanParticipantHe is different from the antebellum South because he believes in the protection of invidual rights, equal protection of laws and due process, under the 14th Amendment.
The principle of Federalism is for a “libertarian” federal government. With the States operating as laboratories (as described by Brandeis) and competitors, and people choosing where to live with their feet. As a check on States abusing their power over individuals, the federal government will protect individual rights, unequal treatment, and violation of due process. But so long as States avoid those issues (and a few others outlined in the Constitution) they should be allowed free reign (see the 10th Amendment).
October 11, 2016 12:05 pm at 12:05 pm #1185982It is Time for TruthParticipantWhat do you have to have 14th Amendment?
States’ rights Uber alles
Plus, the 14th was really supposed to cover Color of skin only
Everything else ( gender, etc.) was invented by the Warren ant- libertarian court
October 11, 2016 2:31 pm at 2:31 pm #1185983zahavasdadParticipantLibertarinism would also hurt jewish relgious life in America
One of the unsung reasons why Yiddishkeite was able to flourish in the US was laws to protect jewish observance and the 5 day work week. Prior to the 5 day work week it was very hard not to work on shabbos and leaving early on Friday was not an option
Yeah some people did manage to get fired every week, but those people were really few and far between and most at a certain time eventually gave up.
Without laws protecting your rights, You could be fired for leaving work early on fridays or not working on Saturdays.
October 13, 2016 3:12 am at 3:12 am #1185984👑RebYidd23ParticipantThat’s for states to decide.
