Is the end of the A train in Far Rockaway in a safe neighborhood?
June 9, 2014 3:20 am at 3:20 am #1018999TheGoqParticipantNo and neither is the middle.
June 9, 2014 3:30 am at 3:30 am #1019000UtahMemberThis complicates things
June 9, 2014 3:31 am at 3:31 am #1019001PulsingFlowerMemberThe neighborhood is in a safe?
June 9, 2014 3:45 am at 3:45 am #1019002homerMemberIts not exactly safe but. . .
Since Guiliani was Mayor he really cleaned the subway up. As a young kid I would never have used the A train. Now? Maybe.
When do you need to travel there?
June 9, 2014 3:49 am at 3:49 am #1019003Rockaway ResidentParticipantYou shouldn’t have an issue in the middle of the day. Yeah, it’s not a great neighborhood, but there’s a decent police presence.
Where are you coming from, and what time are you arriving? Is the LIRR an option for you?
June 9, 2014 1:01 pm at 1:01 pm #1019004gavra_at_workParticipantIt goes to Harlem. If you miss the A Train, you’ll find you’ve missed the quickest way to Harlem.

June 9, 2014 9:23 pm at 9:23 pm #1019007UtahMemberI have friends in the 5 towns and the A train is just the most convenient but I heard that it isn’t so safe.
I’ll just take the LIRR or meet them in the city
June 9, 2014 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm #1019008charliehallParticipantI take the A train from the northern tip of Manhattan to Brooklyn several times every week. Never seen anything problematic. It *is* very crowded, though.
June 9, 2014 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm #1019009farrockgrandmaParticipantI’ve been taking the A train from Far Rock for more than 25 years, and never had a problem. The trains run often, so it is a lot more convenient than the LIRR. It can be a little noisy when the schoolkids are traveling. The biggest surprise was when I chose to take the subway into Manhattan on a Sunday – most of the other passengers were family groups.
June 9, 2014 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #1019010👑RebYidd23ParticipantHow would you know if it was an accident?
