    Hi,

My wife and I live in Canada. We find that life is very expensive and the level of yiddiskite is not comparable to that of many communities in the U.S.

We are very interested in moving to the States, but as we are both Canadian it presents an obstacle.

I was hoping I could get some advice, help, suggestions and comments on how we can go about making the move. If anyone is and immigration lawyer or knows one that could send us in the right direction we would truly appreciate it.

    Thanks a lot.

Have you checked with Mr. Google, Esq.? He is very helpful. And free, too.

BTW, what city in Canada are you coming from? In what way is the Yiddishkite lacking?

as Joseph suggests first check on google what the step by step laws are for immigration from going to the us council in canada to apply for immigration to many other steps & then sit down with your spouse & start doing research on what type of community you are interested in moving to. What is your level of frumkeit & what level do you want to live by? that would tell you which communities are fit for you & which not. if you post what type of a family you are many people here might be able to suggest a good US town to move to that fits your type

Thanks for the replies. I have looked on Google. From my understanding the main ways to immigrate are through a job offer, or family sponsorship, or a the lottery visa. My brother married an American but I don’t think he can sponsor me in till he is a US Citizen, right now he is only a permanent resident.

We live in the Toronto area and have 1 son. CVS I don’t think the community is lacking its just not comparable to a Monsey, Lakewood or Brooklyn in terms of the amount of kollelim, mikvos, sefarim stores, grocery stores etc. I love the idea of catching a mariv at 3am if the need arises. Also in our area it is heavily populated by non jews so all the cars on shabbos distracts from the Kedusha.

Have you looked into Toronto or Hamilton?

NYC area where most of the frum jews live is VERY expensive. South Florida the other main jewish area is cheaper, but good jobs are scarce there

There really aren’t a lot of 3 AM maariv minyanim even in Brooklyn. Maybe Shomrei Shabbos. I think Rabbi Landau’s shul’s last minyan is 1:30 or so. How many kollelim, mikvaos, etc. do you need? I can understand moving for education for your children (we did it 3 times), but I think number of amenities isn’t a good reason to uproot your family. Avraham didn’t move to Canaan because of the number of kosher pizza stores there.

Toronto and Montreal have huge Jewish communities. What could be the matter with Toronto? The COR certifies lots of restaurants, you have Rav Shlomo Miller there, and so on.

If you want to live in a place with no cars on shabbos, move to Meah Shearim. In America, there are people driving on shabbos because not even Lakewood and Boro Park are inhabited by 100% frum Jews.

Late minyanim are a convenience, I’ll give you that. But why would you need to daven at 3 am? How would you make zman krias shema if you’re up so late?

I hear what your saying yehudayona. The ikkur reason isn’t the amenities its the cost.

My wife is also on board we both feel the same way. Our son is only 15 months and hasn’t started school yet so there is not much to uproot.

Ive spent Shabbos in lakewood and there are cars there .

I was there one shabbos last summer and right behind one of the shuls a family was having a Pool party with music.

This is not a knock on Lakewood, but the point is anywhere you go there isnt going to be total frumketie (Excpet maybe New Square or Kiryat Joel where few non chassidim live if any)

“Also in our area it is heavily populated by non jews so all the cars on shabbos distracts from the Kedusha.”

And do you really think that moving to the USA will change that? Do you really believe that there are that many fewer cars in the “jewish” neighborhoods?

If you’re already going to uproot yourself and your family, why not head east and make aliyah? There’s a mitzvah to live in E”Y, and there’s certainly no mitzvah to live in Canada or the U.S. (That includes Monsey, Boro Park, Lakewood, and the list goes on and on . . .)

Boro Park streets are quite devoid of driving on Shabbos. You could walk on the road for at least over half an hour in many parts of the neighborhood without encountering a moving vehicle.

Thanks everyone for their opinions and help. I guess I was asking more for advice on the practicalities of making the move, not whether or not we should move. We have decided that we want to move. There are other reasons besides from the costs and amenities why we want to move as well.
