I’m trying to synchronize an audio file with pictures in a PowerPoint slide show. How do I do that in power point or is there a better program I can use for that?

I’ve used windows live movie maker to make a picture slide show with music over it. It’s a fairly simple program, which also means the features are limited. It’s easy to quickly put together something decent, but if you want to fine tune things, it’s not so user-friendly.

(copied from the website)
Play music for the duration of your slide show
Applies To: PowerPoint 2016 PowerPoint 2013
To play a song in the background of your slide show, do the following:
On the Insert tab, select Audio, and then Audio on My PC.
In the file explorer, locate the music file you want to use and then select Insert.
On the Playback tab, select Play in Background.
Play music in the background
TIP: If you want to use music from the web, download it to your PC before you use it in a presentation.
Do you want to play multiple songs across multiple slides?

The audio file is a recorded speech converted into an mp3 file. The pictures have to coordinate to specific words that’s mentioned in the speech. For example a picture of cake has to come up when the recorded speech says “cake.”

Then set up a timed presentation, with each slide coming up at the appropriate time. Go to transitions, you can chose the timing options there, to advance slides by click or after specified time. It may be tedious, but I think it can work.
