January 13, 2009 4:36 am at 4:36 am #631895mazal77ParticipantWho say’s you can’t be all the above? My father is from the Mideast whose forefathers were from spain(Sephardi) My mother’s parents were from Hungary and Poland(Ashkenaz & Chassidish. (My mother was born in Germany after the war and lived in Israel for a time and then came to the States) I have the best of everything.
January 13, 2009 4:36 am at 4:36 am #631896kapustaParticipantmazal77 that was a great answer- no matter what “sect” you consider yourself to be a part of, you are a jew just like the rest of us and essentially brothers and sisters, after all, we share a father… aside from sefardic and ashkenazic which is dependent on ancestry everythings relative as to what you consider yourself today does heimishe mean chassidish, yeshivish, or used in the denomination of homey or chilled out… anyone want to do an official YWN dictionary?

January 13, 2009 4:52 am at 4:52 am #631898mazal77ParticipantI always tell my kids, “I don’t care who you marry, as long as they are jewish”. I got a little of everything in me, maybe I should change my name to … any suggestions??
January 13, 2009 4:54 am at 4:54 am #631899syriansephardiMemberThis thread wasn’t meant to say I’m not jewish…..were all jewish on here duh (or so we hope) I was just curious what everyone is! Chill but mazal wow u really have all the above lol.
January 13, 2009 5:07 am at 5:07 am #631900asdfghjklParticipanthmmmmm….i remember another thread like this in the cr!!!! i’m very jewish!!!
January 13, 2009 5:28 am at 5:28 am #631901mazal77ParticipantWell, after this long galus, I think we’re all mixed up!!!

January 13, 2009 5:36 am at 5:36 am #631903qwertyuiopMemberbrook first lets get to 1000 then post on other threads.
January 13, 2009 5:39 am at 5:39 am #631904anonymisssParticipantHmm…let’s see, from my father’s side, I’m…I won’t give this away. You gotta figure it out yourself
January 13, 2009 5:39 am at 5:39 am #631905mazal77ParticipantBrook, are you persian??
January 13, 2009 5:43 am at 5:43 am #631906brooklyn19Participantmazal – not even close!
January 13, 2009 5:49 am at 5:49 am #631907JosephParticipantbrook is Israeli.
January 13, 2009 5:53 am at 5:53 am #631908brooklyn19Participantlol i’m american. my grandparents are israeli and my father was born there.
but, that doesn’t say where my family is originally from and what minhagim i keep.
AND – most of my minhagim are actually from my mother’s side so i identify with them much more. now, where am i from? lol :}
January 13, 2009 6:30 am at 6:30 am #631909JosephParticipantbrook, you speak with a sefardic/israeli havara.
January 13, 2009 6:40 am at 6:40 am #631910brooklyn19Participantoh do i? only sometimes. and ask syriansephardi – there are a million sects within the sfardi group.
January 13, 2009 1:31 pm at 1:31 pm #631912JosephParticipantokay, so which of the million do you belong to? (now don’t go denying the truth again…)
January 13, 2009 2:02 pm at 2:02 pm #631913veyatzivMemberBrooklyn-Egypt?
January 13, 2009 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm #631914mazal77ParticipantI wouldn’t say a million sects in the syrian sephardi, Turkish, Moroccan, Lebanese, Persian, Egyptian and Syrian From Aleppo and Syrian from Damascus.
January 13, 2009 5:43 pm at 5:43 pm #631915areivimzehlazehParticipanti like this topic- doesn’t HAVE to get controversial.
you will believe this- i’m as tzimisht as mazal77 (not as extreme, but close). and “Well, after this long galus, I think we’re all mixed up”- couldn’t agree more
now once again i will do some analyzing and guessing:
joseph, asdf, qwerty, moish01, squeak, RY, BYM are obviously ashkenazi
chacham is sephardi
Charlie Brown, Curious, bored@work and beacon are… American?
January 13, 2009 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #631916CuriousMemberareivim – that must have been a very tough guess. Americna is not an exclusive description.
January 13, 2009 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #631917areivimzehlazehParticipantcurious: what makes you exclusive?
January 13, 2009 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm #631918CuriousMemberareivim, you really want me to tell you why I’m exclusive? The list is mighty long!
BTW, I was sniffling cuz you left me single.
January 13, 2009 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #631919surferMemberareivim u left me out????????
January 13, 2009 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #631920brooklyn19Participantareivim – and i’m not zoche to be mentioned, or what???
mazal – you do know that Turkish, Moroccan, Lebanese, and Persian are not Syrian. and you missed out on Aden, Libya, Iraqi and probably some more.
veyatziv – i’m not egyptian
and Joseph – i thought you knew everything! apparently not… :}
January 13, 2009 8:56 pm at 8:56 pm #631921AL2ParticipantAm I the only one who is Ashkenaz? Wow, I’m unique! 🙂
January 13, 2009 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #631922brooklyn19ParticipantAL2 – ashkenaz or ashkeno??? lol there’s a difference in pronunciation.

January 13, 2009 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #631924rabbiofberlinParticipantBoy, I must be on “joseph’s mind these days….I have not “posted” much recently (some of us have jobs…) and I was idly leafing throught the new postings….and wonder above wonder, there is joseph, mentioning my name!
I think he is alluding to a remark made some time ago when I said (a bit facetiously) that I am ‘all of the above”. Actually, I am a mongrel, part galicianer, part hungarian, a pinch of yekkers and a dose of sefardim !
January 13, 2009 9:14 pm at 9:14 pm #631925areivimzehlazehParticipantcurious: i officially red the esteemed Rosh Yeshiva to Curious. and d’you know why? because of your persistence “behind every great man…”
all males please refrain from commenting regarding feminism
RY- are you maskim?
brook- i’ll tell u what. you reveal your age and origin and i’ll red you the “best boy in lakewood”
surfer- change your screen name to something very masculin and come back to me then. I’ll have a line up for you
MOD72: I DELETED 4 LINES ON THIS ONE- PROUD?
January 13, 2009 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm #631926areivimzehlazehParticipantrabbi- you’re my kinda guy
January 13, 2009 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #631927brooklyn19Participantthere is no best boy in lakewood. you learn that with time. but i’ll take the second best! (maybe he’ll be for real!)
plus, i’d rather the best guy in the mir. why would i live in lakewood if yerushalayim’s an option???
January 13, 2009 9:25 pm at 9:25 pm #631928syriansephardiMemberBrooklyn: mazal meant that there’s many types of sepharadim. And I totally thought u were ashkenaz!! Suprisingly not!!
Joseph I think is 100% ashkenaz!!
