What is your opinion on Alternative medicine providers?
Some claim to be able to heal stuff that would otherwise require aggressive medical treatment or even surgery, if this is true than why dont they come out in the open and offer their knowledge to the rest of the world.
Is it because the medical community is biased and not interested in alternative methods, or are these people shams running fraudulent clinics?
September 30, 2014 10:25 pm at 10:25 pm #1033834funnyboneParticipantHere’s my unprofessional opinion. It isn’t a medical one (I recommend that you get a medical one for whatever issue you have).
Alternative medicine does work; sometimes. My son once had issues and we discussed it with an vitamin person. It might be vitamin C, D, Zinc etc. Take all these vitamins and it might work.
Sometimes they are right; I usually don’t waste my time and $ with them.
I recommend that you research any alternative remedies before implementing.
Refuah Sheleimah!

October 1, 2014 12:21 am at 12:21 am #1033836000646Participantalternative medicine is by definition a medical procedure or treatment that either has not been proven to work or proven not to work. Alternative medicine that has been scientifically proven to work is just called “medicine” and the companies that make them are called “pharmaceutical” companies.
October 1, 2014 1:42 am at 1:42 am #1033837ivoryParticipantThere’s a lot if anecdotal evidence with so-called alternative medicine proven to work
October 1, 2014 2:19 am at 2:19 am #1033838akupermaParticipantIf an “alternative” method worked, it would be adopted by mainstream medicine. The fact the “big medicine” rejects something that could use to justify charging you big fees suggests that these new treatments are to be looked at skeptically.
Though if an alternative is “free”, the establishment tends to ignore it. For example, Type 2 Diabetes can be prevented or cured by loss of weight (to the point the person is no longer overweight) and by significant exercise. Exercise and refraining from eating do not generate fees, making this an “alternative” to establish medicine. So in cases where the alternative involves little or no expense, it might be valid even though the medical establishment doesn’t embrace it.

Somethings even though they are “alternative” – they do work.

This is so Not true! Of course we tell pt’s to lose weight -if they are fat. Obviously, you know nothing about medicine. The pt’s don’t listen -so the choice is let the pt die or develop a drug to help them!
October 1, 2014 2:09 pm at 2:09 pm #1033840HaLeiViParticipantThe old if-it’s-true-why-don’t-we-all argument is not really strong logic. The usual answer is that everyone it’s waiting for everyone to agree.
Many remedies are alternative before they become mainstream. Fish oil was suggested by naturalists long before becoming mainstream.
October 1, 2014 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm #1033841akupermaParticipantHealth: We agree that if something works, it is adopted by the mainstream.
For cures not involving surgery, drugs, etc., you (I assume you are part of the mainstream) fall short. If the same effort made in pushing diabetes treatments such as drugs or injections was made to tell patients to lose weight and exercise (e.g. here are some pills, they really don’t work all that well – if you don’t want to die a horrible death you have to lose half you body weight and spend at least an thirty minutes a day working out), it would be effective. Note how health care plans pay for “Janumet” but not for exercise. I suspect most doctors have long since concluded that most patients won’t listen if told to radically lose weight and exercise, and go to “Plan B” (medication).
October 1, 2014 3:33 pm at 3:33 pm #1033842ivoryParticipantMedical doctors don’t recommend alternative medicine because they didnt study it and dont have familiarity with it.Not because it doesn’t work.
October 1, 2014 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm #1033843benignumanParticipantA lot of alternative medicine has been subject to controlled studies. Some alternative medicines work for some conditions, most do nothing and some are harmful.
Read “Trick or Treatment” by Simon Singh and Edzard Ernst.
October 1, 2014 5:21 pm at 5:21 pm #1033844Yserbius123ParticipantThere are two types of alternate medicine: Those that work and those that don’t. Historically, alternate medicine that works has been called “medicine”.
October 1, 2014 9:54 pm at 9:54 pm #10338452scentsParticipantI was wondering if there is someone that has any detailed information. I have been to one of these healers, he prescribed ‘natural stuff’, I mean everything is natural, medications also are derived from plants.
So I did some reading and was shocked about what I read.
October 2, 2014 1:42 am at 1:42 am #1033846funnyboneParticipantMy attitude is, don’t eat poisonous mushrooms, even if they’re natural.

Look, do you know a relative or a friend who is obese or smokes? Tell them to stop their dangerous behavior & then come here and post their reply!

Get a book called: “Guide to Medical Cures and Treatments by Reader’s Digest Editors.” In there they have regular medicine & alternative medicine.
