It’s about time America puts America first.
Everyone thought that the President of the United States was all talk and no action. Like how we’ve all been used to from all the other politicians. Well, President Trump is no politician and is proving he means what he says and says what he means. And carries out his campaign promises, whether regarding building a wall, necessary immigration restrictions or trade. The positions he’s been advocating during the campaign are the same positions he’s publicly taken decades ago and is carrying out as President. All the naysayers saying he’s overpromising things he can’t or won’t carry through with are now surprised he actually is doing exactly what he said he would and Americans voted for him to do.
January 29, 2017 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #1212776yehudayonaParticipantHe carries out (most of) his promises no matter how idiotic they are. (Note he hasn’t moved the embassy, probably not to upset his buddies in Saudi Arabia).
He’s building a wall despite all the evidence that it’s unnecessary and wasteful and will be ineffective. Texans living near the current Bush-era border fence hate it. If you google “Texas border residents bristle at Donald Trump’s talk of new wall,” you’ll find a USA Today article with a great photo of the 19′ ladders that have been used to scale the 18′ fence. The number of illegals in the U.S. has remained stable for several years. The number of illegal crossings of the Mexican border dropped 90% from 2005 to 2015. It’s much easier to enter the U.S. legally on a tourist visa and overstay the visa, as over 40% of illegals have done.

January 29, 2017 6:16 pm at 6:16 pm #1212778hujuParticipantTo nyu stud: From your screen name I am guessing that you are under 25. You need to learn where the phrase “America First” comes from. In part, it comes from the 1930’s, when fear of war in Europe led many Americans to put “America First” and stay out of the impending European wars. German-Americans were big supporters of America First, because they had no interest in seeing the US oppose their ancestors’ homeland’s master racist.
I have no idea whether our president is aware of the connection of this phrase to ugly parts of America’s past – he is not a student of history unless it includes himself. But the phrase invokes some of the ugliest – and most anti-Semitic – portions of American history, and I fear that the president may be aware of that much.
January 29, 2017 7:16 pm at 7:16 pm #1212779nyustudMemberhuju: The term America First originates from President Wilson. He was the first President, or anyone, to use the term. Lindbergh and his ilk stole the slogan from President Wilson. President Trump is reutilizing President Wilson’s term.
January 29, 2017 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #1212780FuturePOTUSParticipanthuju: President Trump is aware of what it means. And in no way is he using it in the way it was used back in WWII. He redefined the phrase, and is using it in the way the phrase directly means. America before other countries. This is a statement that anyone vying to be our President should not have any qualms about saying.
January 29, 2017 8:05 pm at 8:05 pm #1212781LightbriteParticipantA lot of that wall is projected to be cutting into American’s private farmlands.
January 29, 2017 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #12127822scentsParticipantDoes moving the embassy really help Israel?
I believe that Trump is making this into a bargaining chip. So now he can sit down with the Palestinians and have them settle down if they want the embassy to remain where it now is.
January 29, 2017 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #1212783LightbriteParticipantIs it just me, or does having the embassy in Jerusalem sound extremely inconvenient?
Also, the diplomats working there will have to live in or commute through Jerusalem.
It’s a big trip just for people who need to go to the embassy.
As for political reasons, that’s another story.
January 30, 2017 2:02 am at 2:02 am #1212784👑RebYidd23ParticipantTrump doing what he promised is exactly what everyone was afraid of.
January 30, 2017 2:16 am at 2:16 am #1212785hujuParticipantTo nyu stud: You are correct, Pres. Wilson used the phrase “America First,” but a major part of the meaning of the term comes from the isolationists/hands off Germany crowd of the 1930’s and ’40’s.
“America First” cannot be considered a benign phrase today, because of its linkage to the anti-Semitism of the 1930’s. Someone with a brain as great – believe me – and Donald Trump thinks his brain is should come up with a phrase to describe his policy without invoking an anti-Semitic past.

January 30, 2017 6:02 am at 6:02 am #1212787yehudayonaParticipantThe wall will be a boon for ladder manufacturers, not to mention the contractors who build it. For the rest of us, it will be an expense. Our tax dollars will pay for it, and if Trump tries to make Mexico pay for it by imposing a tariff on Mexican goods, we’ll pay for it again in increased costs of imported goods (and decreased exports to Mexico, which will no doubt retaliate). It also won’t do what it’s supposed to do, significantly reduce the flow of illegal immigrants.

Huh? Most people I know either live in Yerushalayim or on its outskirts or spend more time there than in Tel Aviv. And even if they don’t, most people I know would much prefer spending time in Yerushalayim than in Tel Aviv.
Amongst other things, you can go to the Kosel while you’re there. And you have the opportunity to be as close to the Shechina as possible.
January 30, 2017 5:43 pm at 5:43 pm #1212789It is Time for TruthParticipantMore important is SCOTUS !
If The President picks a moral choice than it packages all his executive actions , even harsh ones, as part of something Bigger
Merrick Garland was stubbornly blocked for a whole year
If not?!
All these actions are will just go down as crude ethnofascism
