I walked over to the mechutzaf grabbed his iPhone and send it smashing to the ground.
If looks could I would have died there and then.
Seemingly they don’t,So I just stood there legs spread apart, arms crossed staring the mechutzaf down. And then he shouted menuval, fight or flight kicked in and I chose flight. But was I right? Should I have allowed to terrorise me like that?

That’s not what that expression means. It’s nothing to do with embarrassment. It means that if the expression of anger on the other guy’s face (his looks) had the power to kill someone the OP would chas v’sholom be dead.
with my limited knowledge of choshen mishpat i’d say you are a mazek, and probably a ganev, but not a menuval. b’h you are still alive.
