There are other sects within sanz headed by the Divrei Chaim, Klausenburg , Shinev and Bobov.

There is a sefer אוצר החיים that was published in E”Y by R’ Yosef Scheinberg who was a well known mohel in Yerushalayim. It is a collection of minhagim from Zanz. It is on Hebrewbooks.org, an dthis is the link: http://www.hebrewbooks.org/20741

It needs to be kept in mind that the Divrei Chaim was not consistent with many minhagim, sometimes doing this, other times differently. He certainly had his cheshbonos, and we are not to judge. But many minhagim were not “established”. So these are based on individual reports of what he did, and conflicting reports are more likely both true.

The families who descend from Zanz that uphold many of the minhagim include the chassidus kehilos of Klausenberg, Bobov, Zmigrod, Stropkov. Be aware as well that it is fairly common for rebbes to adopt minhagim that come from other sources, often other ancestors through their wives and other grandmothers. All goes to say that “pure Zanz” hardly exists in terms of minhagim.

My personal suggestion is to recognize the known greatness of the Divrei Chaim, with huge gadlus in Toras Haniglah, Chassidus, & Chesed. I suggest that emulating these would please him more than following his minhagim of specific matters.

Why not go to a Tzanzer tisch? Also you should make eggs and onion for Shabbos day seuda, at the table.

Membership is quite reasonable but just remember it comes with a boatload of ropes attached, besides the heavy woolen tzitzis.

As is the answer to most threads like this: if you have to ask, you’ll never know.

Neville: The correct way of expressing your thought is: Those who know won’t say; those who say don’t know.

Those two statements are not the same.

The best way would probably be to get in touch with a Sanzer community.

My best friend is the previous Klausenberger’s grandson (his mother is his daughter and his two uncles are the present Rebbe’s) he is now a Lubavitcher Chossid by the way. In regards to preparing the eggs and onions on the Dhabbos table, that is a minhag that only the Divrei Chaim’s Ztz”l aineklach do not the rest of the Chassdim although you still have yichudim who do it.

    ylevy613:

That is not correct. Many of the Chassidim prepare the “ayer mit zviebel” at the table, as the rebbes did it. True, there are those that don’t, but many do. It is not a minhag for just the Zanzer aineklech.

Preparing the Eggs and the onions at the table is somehing all the chasidim do in Bobov and I think in Kalusenberg too, Regarding other minhagim there are various sources to choose from Bobov, Klausenberg, Shinev, Gorlitz, all have their own minhagim but alot is taken from their grandfather the Holy Divrei Chaim Zatza”l,
But bobov & klausenberg both have their own seforim with their minhagim but they do usually write by each minhag from where it is so you can see if its from Sanz or somewhere else.

Unfortunately you can now buy pre-made eggs and onion. Takes all of the fun (and risk) out of it.
