    Tornadoes are not bad.

Honestly I haven’t. But I thought the general consensus was that they are bad. It seems I may be wrong.

    Tomatoes are definitely good.

Are they a fruit or a vegetable?

Why are tornadoes bad? It is merely a very strong wind. Everything G-d does is good you just don’t understand why he did it and what the benefit was. During hurricanes if the wind gust are high there is a chance of a tornado so you might have lived through it especially in NYC without even knowing. Out on the plains you should look for bomb shelter to stay in until it passes.

Meno- tomatoes have seeds like a fruit but their blessing is the same as a vegetable.

So if everything G-d does is good, why would someone want to dye their hair?

    … or genetically modify food.

I’ve heard that over the past bunch of years they’ve been genetically modifying tomatoes so that they look nicer, but as a result they don’t taste as good. So tomatoes will never taste as good as they did 20 years ago

how did this turn into a conversation about tornadoes? what does tornadoes have anything to do with dying hair?

    #1170972

As every hair dying girl knows, tornadoes can really mess up a hairdo while tomatoes can really foul things up.

Joseph & Meno- lol. I started laughing when I read some of these posts. It’s good that I’m in a house by myself & not in an office full of people or in the midst of a tornado or in the middle of getting my hair dyed during a tornado.

just for the record, everything Hashem does (which means everything, since everything is from Hashem) is FANTASTIC.

The last conversation was about hardships. Something can be good but hard.

Joseph – i dont usually get hairdos.

by the way, I just looked it up, and it’s hair dyeing not hair dying. Dying without the e has to do with being dead. But maybe that’s what you meant – that her hair will die if there’s a tornado.

lilmod ulelamaid – its NOT even a joke its true. dye kills hair. thats why people who dye their hair have to be more careful and how many times they dye it and stuff.

Depends what dye. If you’re a natural light blond, you can dye your hair pink safely and with no increased hair loss.

    Sparkly,

Maybe he’s married. Maybe his wife is a natural light blond and she dyes her hair pink.

    Maybe he’s a girl?

Meno, they haven’t been genetically modifying tomatoes to look nicer, they’ve been breeding them to get traits that have nothing to do with taste. Mostly, commercial growers want tomatoes that look nice, ship well, and are slow to spoil. Tomatoes are advertised as “firm ripe slicing tomatoes.” I don’t want slicing tomatoes, I want eating tomatoes, so I grow my own. I just picked a whole lot for Shabbos.

To stay on topic, “tomato” is a rather old-fashioned slang term for an attractive girl, and my tomatoes don’t have hair (though the leaves and stems have hairs called trichomes, which I don’t dye).

    #1170987

I read an article about how someone developed tomatoes with

excellent flavor, but supermarket chains declined to carry them

because they didn’t think there would be demand for them.

I heard you can use tomato juice to dye your hair, and it doesn’t cause cancer.

lol. It seems to have started with this: Joseph: “Tomatoes are definitely good.”

Joseph, was it really a typo? I hadn’t realized that, and you never corrected it. I was wondering why you threw in tomatoes. (waiting for someone to make a pun.)

Meno – thats gross for a guy to dye his hair.

lilmod ulelamaid – my rabbi said that if the wife gives permission to the husband to dye his hair his allowed to. but i DONT want my husband dying his hair. and i dont know why guys would think i look better with my hair dyed but okay.

Sparkly – according to you, your Rabbi also said that you’re allowed to not be shomer negiah which means that what your Rabbi says is meaningless. It also means he is not Orthodox and you should NOT be quoting him on this website. I am really not interested in hearing kefira, so please stop quoting non-Orthodox Rabbis! Thank you!

Meno – apparently as long as you label yourself MO, it’s muttar. So if you really want to be able to dye your hair, you will have to go to the thread where I asked everyone to label themselves, and label yourself as MO and then it will be muttar.

Oh wait, Gofish already ruined it for everyone by saying that if you call yourself MO, you still have to keep Halacha. Oh, well.

lilmod ulelamaid – thats insulting to call my rabbi not religious especially since that is pure motzei shemra. if you knew who i was talking about you wouldnt say that his not a religious rabbi. also i think i was exaggerating a bit since he DIDNT say you can LITERALLY do whatever you want. he said you cant play ball on shabbos just saying… and many others say you can… just because the people who listen to him dont keep shomer and tznius and he has speeches where girls come in wearing pants DOESNT mean his not a religious rav it just means VERY mo people have him as their rabbi.

    #1171009

You yourself said that your Rabbi tells people they don’t have to be shomer negia. Now you changed it to say that it is the people doing it on their own. You have to be more careful how you present things. If your rabbi really did give permission for that, and you said he did, then it is NOT motzei shem ra to speak against him because he is an apikorus.

YW Moderator-29 – okay ill admit it the people do it on their own but the WHOLE shul does it on their own and the rabbi doesnt tell anyone off even if he sees them wearing pants. But the stuff about the guys and girls talking is not being exaggerated. the touching he might say is a problem but girls and guys talking isnt. he said its because its for shidduchim and its okay for a girl or guy to make their own shidduch. he would say the shorter skirts arent an issue but the pants are. and some other stuff i wasnt exaggerating about like not jewish music and watching TV.

    #1171011

Those are very serious comments to make about someone if they did not really say those things. Baruch Hashem you did not mention his name because that would have been terrible motzei shem ra. I am not clear on the other things you listed but I think it would be best if we stop bringing up things that were or were not said by this rabbi.
