does anyone here know about Argo Tea and its kashrus status? are any of their drinks acceptable?
February 15, 2012 7:47 pm at 7:47 pm #851723yitayningwutParticipantTea is kosher.
February 15, 2012 9:01 pm at 9:01 pm #851724All tea is kosher, except for tea with vanilla which should be avoided, I believe.
February 15, 2012 9:06 pm at 9:06 pm #851725popa_bar_abbaParticipantHow about pig tea? Is pig tea kosher?
February 15, 2012 9:43 pm at 9:43 pm #851726hello99Participantyitay: while it is true that pure tea leaves are intrinsically Kosher, Argo teas are often flavored. The additional flavorings can pose serious Kashrus issues.
February 15, 2012 9:47 pm at 9:47 pm #851727Pig tea? The Creedmoor grocery once had some with a Sikrik hechsher from the timadige medine, but they usually only have it in Adar. Try in a week or 2!

Regarding Argo, they have a twitter account…they have tweeted in response to peoples question, that by nature (not sure if pun intended or not) teas are kosher, “however our blending and production facilities are not certified kosher”.

I don’t know Argo – I have never set foot on your side of the Atlantic. But yes, as I mentioned before, vanilla can be problematic I don’t know of anything else. Plain teas, all tastes, are absolutely fine.

February 15, 2012 10:23 pm at 10:23 pm #851731MadisonJewMemberI never heard of Argo before, and wasn’t aware that you were talking about a restaurant. I just took a quick look on their website and discovered a location minutes from my office. It seems to be a Starbucks type place specializing in tea. They also have coffee and treif food. Thus, they have the same kashrut concerns as Starbucks. If they use the same dishwasher for their “Mate Tea Poached Turkey,” as they have for their tea implements, you may have a problem. Ask your LOR.
