Does anyone here get their haircuts at home – for themselves and/or their children? Most likely given to you by your spouse and you to your children. How much do you save a year by avoiding the barber?
And this may be a silly question, but can you give yourself a haircut?
One can save tons of money by giving oneself and his family a haircut. I am assuming this is a guy. If you buy a haircut machine, you can give yourself a buzz very easily and for sure for your kids.
There is a haircutting machine for men specially made that you can give yourself a haircut, i saw the advert of it.
Sorry — I go to my (frum) barber and he does a wonderful job. Even if he’s away/on vacation, I would rather wait. He knows how to cut around my payos, etc…
Plus, I know that in a way, I am contributing to his parnassah, etc…

I use a buzzer on my kids. I assume I am saving $320 a year but I wouldn’t really know cuz I don’t know what the going rate is. One of my kids cuts his own hair with the buzzer.
my 5 year old will come to your house to cut hair, no charge. He has loads of experience.

I give my self a haircut regularly.

You don’t need a sepcial machine, I use an Oster Classic 76.
we always did at home haircuts. But looking back, my mother always said she wishes she hadn’t :). And don’t give at home cuts to kids past 8-10, if they’ll feel embarrassed abt not having a style for girls, or the wrong type of ‘bangs’ cut for boys.
You can just buzz off all your hair-long buzz-cut or short-just watch the payos
I cut my own – been doing it for years.
It took several times before I got it right.
About an inch on top, about 1/2 on sides and edge with 1/4.
It helped me when I have cut other people’s hair.
I got a better understanding of what I do to myself.
For the back of me neck, I wrap a belt to create a line to “shave” under. That’s easier than using mirrors.
Can you really use the buzz cut machine yourself? Do you need a cordless model to do your own “Chassidishe” cuts?
The water here makes my hair grow unevenly, and I’m of the “zero” blade persuasion anyway because I don’t have much hair left. Neither male barber in town is located conveniently for me, neither one is a Yid, and neither one exactly relies on me for parnosso. I could take the machine to the mikve and pay someone to do it for me but I don’t want to carry the machine around from home to shul to mikve.
You can give urself a buzz cut-just watch out for peyos
i give my son a haircut at home. Aside from the mess, he and i have a good time! My husband, he wont let me touch his hair but I think i may get to him after a few more fantastic haircuts to my son…lol!
miritchka-how old is your son? An older son may have your husbands view and no want u to touch his hair.I wouldnt let my mother touch my hair.
Blackhat, would you allow your mother to gell your recent haircut done by the barber?;) I suspect it was frizzy based on how the Barber cut it!

balckhatwannabe: lol! my son is three! I’m taking advantage of this time. I’m hoping he’ll be ok with it for at least a decade before i have to start shelling out the money for haircuts! Besides, if your mother/wife/brother/father/sister does a good job, whats wrong with her/him cutting your hair? There are so many woman who cut adn style shaitels and i’m sure, almost 100% sure that giving a boys haircut is so much simpler…
miritchka-nothing wrong with that-i wouldnt trust if it is a trial run.
