There have been multiple threads already made about ateres. Just search them on the site.

From what I know, they have rules about hair. If your hair is past shoulder length, then you need to put it up for class, possibly outside of class as well. You aren’t allowed to go to hang out places after dark such as the tachana hamerkazit, ben yehudah, malcha mall or anywhere. But you are allowed to go to ben yehuda during the day. Based on what I have heard from girls last year, the rules about where you can go can be kind of annoying but even though I didn’t go to ateres (but I interviewed there) I can understand why these rules make sense. I personally bumped into guys I knew from youth groups at ben yehuda and the tachana after dark and they don’t want you to have that nisayon.

The best part about Ateres is how many Chicagoans are on staff

like what kind of girls are there?

All different kinds ranging from hanna sacks bais yaakov to tag girls. The former often being girls who come from modern homes the latter growing up in very yeshivish homes. But not as yeshivish as hadar. Many girls also apply to seminar.

I don’t think many hanna sachs girls have been there recently. they have become a touch less modern, but they are really more about where you are going than were you are at.

There were three girls from hanna sacks that went last year.

Does anyone know if the Ateres interview person comes to LA? Last year I don’t think (s)he did.

Higuys, just want to mention that there might be people that are curious as to what you are referring to but will not take the time to search and read through forums that you started or posted in… in my opinion, just saying “be careful” without an explanation just sends out negative vibes about the place without giving anyone specific reason to think negatively about them… I know Ateres’ hanhala personally, as well as MANY of their recent alumni, and I haven’t heard any reason to be “concerned” or “careful” when applying. Please be careful not spread a bad name for no reason… and if you do have a reason, be clear about it

thank you hodulashem. I was not going to check higuys posts but i did have some reconsidering feelings about the place from that comment.

My daughter was very happy there and I was impressed with the way they handled some of the difficult situations they were faced with that year when girls didn’t follow through with their contracts. Higuys may have legitimate complaints, but we don’t really know, and we shouldn’t use that to sway us.

Making it easy to find makes it harder not to look for it.

I had heard only good things about Ateres, but a person should also know the risks involved when investing the amount of money seminaries demand plus other risks not readily known.

Mods: yes, but personally, as a girl looking into seminaries, I like to be well-informed. I may not take it into account, but I like to know. (And trust me, I don’t take everything into account. Not everything is necessarily relevant or important or accurately presented. But I still like to know.)

Also, my suggestion wasn’t exactly rocket science.

My only (or at least main) point was to defend higuys as everyone was accusing her of making a statement without backing it up.

IT’S important to look at the ‘products’ of a seminary as well as the backgrounds of the girls they are taking. based on the background is how the sem gives over their messages….

What happened with higuys is something that no one on the cr can judge ateres for. We don’t know why they did what they did, we don’t have ANY real info. So if you were thinking of going to ateres and you changed your mind because of this, please don’t. We don’t know what went on there and we cannot judge.

    And as a side note-

higuys, you just made it very easy for someone to discover your true identity…

taom: yes, that’s why I said that it probably wouldn’t factor into my decision (if I were considering Ateres, which I’m not) but it’s still good to know. My point was more that people were attacking higuys.

Mods, I’m wondering why my link was not included in my post. It was a coffee room link. Did you not feel that it was le’toeles?

A good site for finding out info about seminaries is seminary & beyond. its for people in high school but also for girls who came back from sem so you can get a good idea of the types of girls that go to a certain seminary…
