were did the minhag of giving presents come from its gone a stickle overboard now the father owes his kid like if he dosent give a big present hes a ganav and a cheat burach hashem im not talking about my family but i hear that kids have fights in school: i got this for my afikomen, yea well i got this for the afikomen its crazy!! – RANT OVER
afikomen is based on the korban pesach which was eaten at the end of the meal on a full stomach.
YCT calls it afikopeople.
i was always told that it is to motivate the children to stay awake and involve themselves in the seder although i agree that its gone overboard
